The STRO (Shannel Tube Reverse Osmosis) membrane is a new-generation high-pressure pipeline reverse osmosis membrane developed specifically for the concentration, recovery, and compliant discharge of high-concentration, high-salinity, and low-suspended-solids wastewater.

The STRO membrane element combines the advantages of both open-channel and spiral-wound element designs, featuring a unique 45° diamond-shaped double-layer open channel structure. This innovative design overcomes the shortcomings of conventional reverse osmosis membrane modules by significantly optimizing fluid dynamics performance and greatly reducing the fouling and scaling issues common in traditional systems.
The main components of the STRO assembly are membrane elements, pressure vessels, and two terminal flanges. Within each membrane element, every two sheets of membrane are laser-welded together with a permeate separation grid to form a membrane pad. Each pad is separated from adjacent pads by a feed grid, and multiple pads with feed grids are sequentially spiral-wound to form the complete membrane element.

1) Feed Channel Improvement
The width of the feed channel is widely recognized as the most critical indicator of anti-fouling performance in reverse osmosis membrane elements. Traditional spiral-wound membranes suffer from mesh clogging and scaling, which restricts the feed channel and increases pressure differential. The STRO membrane element addresses this by combining open-channel and spiral-wound design advantages, creating a narrow yet open channel structure that greatly optimizes the effective area of both the feed channel and membrane surface.
2) Winding Method Improvement
The STRO membrane employs shortened blades with an increased number of blades, which provides the following benefits:
High Desalination Rate: Under standard testing conditions, the desalination rate reaches 99% with stable performance, delivering superior product water quality. For more information on desalination technologies, see Desalination Technologies Overview.

Anti-Fouling & Anti-Scaling: Special fluid hydraulic design reduces concentration polarization and improves fouling and scaling resistance. To learn how this impacts the efficiency of High Salinity Wastewater Treatment, read our detailed analysis.
Special Flow Channel: The 45° diamond-shaped double-layer flow channel design provides better cleaning effectiveness and easier performance recovery.
Easy Maintenance: Modular design with 1-6 units in series configuration, easy to clean and maintain. This design simplifies maintenance and maximizes operational uptime, as explained in Membrane Maintenance Guide.
Compact Footprint: High membrane packing density reduces equipment footprint and overall project cost.
Extended Service Life: Fewer seals simplify maintenance, extend service life, and significantly reduce replacement costs.

STRO Membrane is a specialized waterproofing and protective layer used in construction and building maintenance. It works by creating a seamless barrier that prevents water and moisture from penetrating the building's structure. The membrane is applied in liquid form and cures to form a durable, flexible, and adhesive film that adheres to the substrate. This makes it an effective solution for protecting basements, roofs, and other surfaces from water damage and dampness.
STRO Membrane stands out from traditional waterproofing methods due to its advanced formulation and application process. Unlike conventional waterproofing techniques that may use sheets or felts that can shift or fail over time, STRO Membrane is applied as a liquid, ensuring a fully bonded, monolithic layer that is less prone to leaks and damage. It also offers superior chemical resistance and can be applied in a wider range of weather conditions, making it more versatile and reliable.
The key benefits of using STRO Membrane include its exceptional waterproofing performance, flexibility, and ease of application. It provides long-lasting protection against water and moisture, which can significantly extend the lifespan of a building's structure. Its flexible nature allows it to accommodate minor movements and stresses in the substrate, preventing cracks and leaks. Additionally, its quick application process reduces labor time and costs, making it a cost-effective solution for waterproofing.
Yes, STRO Membrane is suitable for both residential and commercial projects. It is widely used in various applications such as basement waterproofing, roof protection, and foundation repairs in residential buildings. In commercial settings, it is often applied to large-scale structures like multi-story buildings, industrial facilities, and parking garages to ensure robust and reliable waterproofing. Its adaptability and high performance make it a versatile choice for different types of projects.
STRO Membrane requires minimal maintenance once it is installed. Regular inspections to check for any signs of damage or wear are recommended, especially in areas with high traffic or exposure to harsh weather conditions. If any damage is detected, it can be easily repaired by cleaning the affected area and applying a fresh layer of the membrane. Proper maintenance ensures that the membrane continues to provide effective waterproofing and protection over its long lifespan.
